CHECKLISTS FOR COMPLETING THE PLANT
COLLECTION
FIRST
FIVE PLANTS
If you can run through this checklist and honestly say you have
completed each item, you should do well.
Plants
□ 5 plants
□ plants dry
□ single half sheets of newspaper
□ labels in with plants
□ no non-angiosperms
□ no cultivated plants
□ no sterile specimens
□ nothing that violates rules of restricted list
(i.e., prohibited or more than 2 from the limited list)
□ loose fruit in a paper envelope marked with your
name and collection number
Identifications
□ plants *keyed* in one of the approved keys; name
updated if needed
□ identification checked in student herbarium
□ authority included
□ spelling checked
□ citation noted
Labels
□ all label blanks filled
□ location includes city
□ location does not use right, left, near, off,
behind, etc. but uses N, S, E, W, etc.
□ habitat statement includes 4 things
□ height is recorded accurately and units given
□ color is what you saw in the field
□ legible!
Presentation
□ newspapers neat
□ collection summary sheet in A-Z order
□ plants in A-Z order with summary sheet on top
□ loose dirt shaken out
□ field log handed in separately (with name on it!!)
□ on time
□ legible
FINAL COLLECTION
